Mercury generates electricity from 100% renewable sources – hydro, geothermal, and soon, wind. With nine hydro stations on the Waikato River, five wind farms and five geothermal plants located in the central North Island, Mercury is committed to a more sustainable future.

Mercury proudly supports activities which ensure carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere and stored in a natural form, and directly contributes towards New Zealand’s growing e-transport fleet of EVs, e-bikes and e-scooters.

In the last few years Mercury has converted more than 70% of their vehicle fleet to electric or plug-in hybrid. Mercury is a proud member of EV100, an initiative to help reduce carbon emissions and make electric transport the new normal by 2030. Mercury recognises that EVs are powerful, quiet, and remarkably cheap to run; they are making it even easier for customers to save more with discounted off-peak charging at home.
