From 11 September to 9 October 2024, ACC consulted on the potential removal of levy exemptions from BEVs and PHEVs. The consultation said the intent of the removal is to ensure all vehicle types pay equivalent levies. The Minister then considered ACC’s recommendations, feedback from the public, and independent advice from MBIE, before Cabinet made the final decisions in December 2024 and released the 2024 levy consultation results.
