Meet the Fleet – Meridian Energy

Meridian's first fast-charging hub is now live at Auckland Airport and it’s setting a new standard for EV charging in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Just landed: Premium Drive Electric member Meridian Energy opens first fast-charging hub at Auckland Airport.

Meridian’s first fast-charging hub is now live at Auckland Airport and it’s setting a new standard for EV charging in Aotearoa New Zealand.

This isn’t just another charging site. It’s a purpose-built hub designed with real EV driver needs in mind, supported by Meridian’s Certified Renewable Energy product and ready to support the growing demand in Aotearoa New Zealand’s busiest city.

So, what makes this hub so special?

  • 5x DC fast chargers, each capable of delivering up to 160kW, feature two charging ports. This means 10 electric vehicles can charge at the same time, reducing the need to queue for a charge, a known pain point for EV drivers.
  • Dynamic power allocation to reduce wait times and maximise efficiency allowing drivers to return to what matters most to them.
  • Two chargers designed and prioritised for drivers with greater accessibility needs. They’ll accommodate wheelchair users with sufficient space to navigate around the vehicle and charger and feature an adjustable user interface screen to suit various heights.
  • A drive-through charger for EVs towing trailers, boats or caravans
  • CCS + CHAdeMO connectors to support a wide range of EV models
  • Room to grow, with space to add more chargers as demand increases

Every charge makes a difference

Every kWh used at this site is matched with Certified Renewable Energy put into the grid by one of Meridian’s hydro stations or wind farms. This means every charge supports renewable energy generation in Aotearoa New Zealand. It doesn’t stop there. Through Meridian’s Certified Renewable Energy programme, revenue from this site helps fund community decarbonisation projects across the country. So, when you charge here, you’re not just powering your car — you’re helping power a more sustainable future for all of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Why Auckland Airport?

Auckland is Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest city, with the highest uptake of EVs nationwide. The airport is a high-traffic location and a key gateway for both locals and visitors, making it the perfect place to launch Meridian’s first fast charging hub.

“We’ve designed this hub to tackle real pain points for drivers — especially queuing,” says Joanna Yip, Public Charging Product Manager at Meridian. “We’ve listened to the EV community and built a site that’s accessible, efficient and supporting communities to decarbonise along the way.”

What’s next?

This is just the beginning. Auckland Airport is the first site in Meridian’s public charging network where the kWh consumed are matched with an amount of renewable energy they generate — and it won’t be the last. The team is already looking ahead to expand their Certified product across their public charging network, with plans to grow into the largest public charging network in Aotearoa New Zealand, all while delivering a seamless and sustainable charging experience for drivers now and into the future.
